According to the Pacific Legal Foundation, when American poet Robert Frost was being interviewed on a 1952 television show, he said that he preferred to spend time with people who have “a definite personality.” In fact the best trait in people, Frost went on, “is taut boldness.” This is consistent with my research about the views of all 55 delegates to the 1787 Constitutional Convention, where they bickered, debated and even fought about almost every issue. BUT, when asked what is the most important function of government, each one boldly said that it is protecting our individual liberties from the encroachment of government. (The second-most important function was keeping us safe.) What do you think Robert Frost and each of those 55 delegates would say about the status of our individual liberties in our country today? Are we being bold in their protection?
For example, today our federal government is intruding into the areas of education and healthcare, where there has been no delegation by We the People in the Constitution for it to do so, whatsoever! (And in both of these areas expenses have gone way up and quality has generally gone down.) No, these decisions are left for We the People! In addition, our federal government’s spending of money it doesn’t have is putting our grandchildren into bankruptcy! So what are we each doing about these situations? Are we being bold by telling/ordering our government officials to get out of these areas and be more responsible in their spending practices? As has been stated numerous times in these weekly editions, it is our government and if it is not working we have no one to blame but ourselves! So please join with us Libertarians and boldly lead the charge to rein back these unconstitutional and irresponsible actions by the federal government. Robert Frost and each of the delegates are rooting for us.
