A Threat To Who We Are!

There was an editorial in the May 2, 2024 edition of the Orange County Register about which we all should be concerned. It called attention to the fact that a graduate student at Tufts University who is here on a student visa was recently arrested and taken to a Louisiana jail and is being threatened with deportation for doing nothing more than writing a Pro-Palestinian op-ed piece for a local newspaper. The thrust of her column was to protest American support for the war in Gaza. It did not recommend violence or otherwise taking inappropriate action. But if that is not a violation of our Free Speech Rights under our Constitution, I have trouble thinking about what could be a greater threat. So I believe we all should be concerned about this result.

Pardon Me, Mister President, This Is A Fine Pickle You Have Gotten Us Into…

I am not a constitutional attorney. However, I would love to play one on T.V. If given that role, I would argue to the President of the United States that the power to pardon is a double-edged weapon when used as a preemptive shield. The U.S. Supreme Court validated the unlimited power of the president to pardon in its 1866 case Ex Party Garland. Three decades later they reaffirmed and clarified that a preemptive pardon is well within the president’s constitutional authority.

A Sensible Immigration Policy

It really is not so hard. In my view, our nation’s immigration policy should be based upon the following five maxims:
1. It is our decision who comes into our country either to visit or to live, and not the visitor’s;
2. One strong reason our country is Great is because over the years so many people from around the world have immigrated here so they can roll up their sleaves and pursue the American Dream. Those who have shown they are a boon to themselves, their families and our country who have not already become citizens should their paths be streamlined to become citizens;

With the final study now completed we are ready to project winners for tomorrow’s races in our weekly tracking studies. Donald Trump has gained strength each week that we have conducted the studies. That momentum continues. Trump should win the targeted swing states of Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Michigan.

Standing Up For Our Values

This past week I wrote a short note to some neighbors requesting that they consider removing their front yard Halloween display that has a witch lowering a little girl headfirst into a boiling cauldron of water. The thrust of the note was that some things simply are not funny or cute, and should not be shown to children as if they were. So that led me to thinking about couple of “popular” songs which, for many years, I have shunned for the same reason.

Survey Fever Public Reports

The Trump momentum continues to gain support in the swing states but is slowing down. Trump/Vance now lead Harris/Walz in five of the seven targeted swing states according to SurveyFever.com. The remaining states of MI and WI are virtually tied at 48 all. Trump is now ahead according to the most recent polling in Pennsylvania by 49 to 47.5, a strong movement from last week. Trump is now in position to gain control of the Electoral College and surpass the 270 Electoral votes needed for the win.

Trump Gag Order Conundrum

We have all been aware of the New York trial court judge’s threat to impose a Gag Order on former President Donald Trump. But we should also be aware of the complicated issues surrounding this situation! From the beginning of my judicial career back in judges’ college in 1984 the instructors told us not to issue orders that we could not enforce.
